Ultimate Steak Sandwich

Ingredients (11)

Serves 1

220g rump steak

1 large ciabatta roll

1 large onion

2tbsp butter

2 sprigs rosemary

1tsp brown sugar

1tbsp balsamic vinegar

1tsp Dijon mustard

Rocket to serve

1tsp salt (plus a pinch for the onions)

1tsp pepper


Step 1

Slice your onions and then add 2 tbs oil to a pan on a low heat followed by your onions and a pinch of salt, leave to cook for 20 minutes. Add your sugar and balsamic vinegar a cook for a further 10 minutes

Step 2

Season your steak generously with salt and pepper (take your steak out of the fridge 20 minutes before cooking to get up to room temperature). In a hot pan add 2 tbs oil, place your steak fat side down to render fat for 2 minutes. Cook your steak for 3 minutes each side (for med/rare) adding butter, rosemary and basting

Step 3

Remove the steak from the pan and leave to rest for 5-7 minutes. Assemble your sandwich adding your mustard, onions, steak and rocket
