Prepare the cake mix by following the instructions on the box. I used a 9 x 13” cake pan. In a food processor or blender, purée half a pint of strawberries, and then add that into the cake batter. Whisk the puree strawberries into the batter until all well combined. Bake the cake as per the box instructions
Step 2
While the cake is baking, whisk the milk, evaporated milk and condensed milk together
Step 3
Once the cake is baked, remove from the oven and let cool completely.Using a fork, poke holes all throughout the cake, and pour over the milk mixture all throughout the cake so all the milk gets absorbed. Let it soak for 3 hours. You can place it in the fridge or leave it covered on the counter
Step 4
Add basil leaves to the whipped cream. Let the basil soak in the cream for the time you’re letting the milk soak into the cake. After the three hours, remove the basil from the cream and then using a stand mixer, whip the cream until soft peaks form. Spread the whipped cream over the soaked cake, and then decorate with sliced strawberries
